25 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Summer 2015

2. Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max Tom Hardy
Warner Bros.

Release Date: 15th May

After 25 years trapped in development hell, the idea that Mad Max 4 would ever make it to a big screen in any form is still difficult to accept, but incoming it nevertheless is.

Mel Gibson has long since got too long in the tooth to carry on the role, but in Tom Hardy, director George Miller has a similarly charismatic star: a silent, imposing jigsaw piece to frame in explosions and grotesque caricatures dredged from the Outback.

Selling Point

Miller has a singular creative conviction: in other words, he is the best type of lunatic. And after being somewhat hampered by the restrictions of technology and effects back when Mel Gibson was leading his films, it looks like he's found the perfect time to go fully insane on screen. That can only be a good thing.

Reservations

25 years is a long time for any idea to gestate, regardless of how many times the script has gone through treatment and retreatment, and there's some nagging concern from some quarters that the world has simply moved on as George Miller stood still.
