25 Star Wars Actors Who Are No Longer With Us

2. William Hootkins

Believe it or not, the chubby X-Wing pilot from Star Wars was actually named Porkins. Played by noted character actor William Hootkins, who was once mixed up in the investigation into the assassination of JFK (he attended school with Ruth Paine, the woman charged with harbouring the wife of Lee Harvey Oswald). Getting his start in acting alongside Tommy Lee Jones, he quickly began taking on supporting roles after seeing the best parts go to Jones, who he stated was "better looking." In addition to Star Wars, Hootkins also notably appeared in 1989's Batman, playing the crooked Lieutenant Eckhardt. Other credits included Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Superman IV, A River Runs Through It, and on television, Remington Steele, Blackadder II, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and The West Wing, amongst many, many others. Hootkins passed away from pancreatic cancer in Santa Monica, California in 2005 at the age of 57.
