25 Wonder Woman Easter Eggs & References You Must See

10. "War Is Truth"

The comic book version of Ares draws his strength from war and violence, and needs to be sustained by perpetual war, becoming weak in times of peace and forging plans to spread war throughout humanity to feed him.

With that in mind, his desire to bring an end to all of mankind doesn't really fit with his origin on the page, as it would leave him weakened. But there's an allowance of sorts in the film for the change in origin, as he reveals he didn't force war, but simply gave them the tools to find their true nature. He calls himself "the God Of Truth" rather than War.

Ares said something very similar in Wonder Woman #37 (2009), in Gail Simone's “Warkiller” arc in which he stole the lasso of truth and proclaimed that “War is Truth, Princess. By all rights, this should belong to me.” .
