25 WTF Moments From The Mission: Impossible Franchise

7. Hendricks Pointlessly Kills Himself (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol)

At the climax of Ghost Protocol, villainous nuclear strategist Kurt Hendriks (Michael Nyqvist) is fighting Ethan in an automated parking garage, and in order to stop him from getting custody of the briefcase containing a nuclear launch device, he leaps from the top of the parking garage with the briefcase, dying moments later from his injuries. Wouldn't it have made more sense to just throw the briefcase down to the bottom of the garage and keep fighting Hunt, who already has a severely injured leg? Instead, he needlessly killed himself and allowed Hunt to drive a car down to the floor, giving him just enough time to stop the launch. Given Hendricks' entire philosophy about nuclear obliteration having a place in the world's natural order, it makes sense that he doesn't value his own life that much, but he just threw it away pointlessly when he could've stuck around to pester Hunt a little more and ensure the launch.
