3 Ups And 7 Downs From X-Men: Apocalypse

2. The CGI Is Consistently Unconvincing

No matter what Hollywood keeps telling you, CGI is not photorealistic yet. And thats fine - its an illusion, not reality. King Kong doesnt look like a real giant ape and nobody nowadays can really believe a man can fly.

But please at least try. I know Civil War had a couple of green screen flubs in the airport sequence, but not once in Apocalypse does the CGI look remotely believable. It's got an unreal sheen and there's a very poor sense of scale that makes the larger constructs look no better than cheap miniatures. You've already made the action so hard to get into with poor characterisation and terrible set-up. Dont steal what adrenaline's left by making it look unreal.

This is becoming a problem with most major blockbusters, where computers are leaned on far too much to save on time and money, forcing visual artists to produce substandard work.
