30 Horror Movie Survivors Who Probably Wished They'd Died

27. Bird Box - The Survivors

Bird Box
Netflix

This is in a similar category to Day of the Dead. A post-apocalyptic world where nearly everyone you know and love is gone sounds like a hellish place to live, but this one seems particularly grim.

In Bird Box, the world is invaded by entities that cause anyone who looks at them to kill themselves, with the bulk of the present-day narrative involving Malorie (Sandra Bullock) guiding two children to a group of survivors who have holed up in a former school for the blind.

Eventually, Malorie and the two children do make it, so that's a happy ending, right? Not quite. Not only will they be living in a post-apocalyptic world now mostly devoid of humans, but they'll also be unable to even go outside without a blindfold. Stuck indoors and never being able to see the beauty of the outside world.... that sounds like a miserable existence, especially for the children.

A direct sequel to Bird Box never materialized - which is no great loss, as Bird Box was a pretty terrible film despite its puzzling viral success - so viewers never found out if the world returned to a semblance of normality again.
