As wonderful a film critic as Roger Ebert was, he didn't always hit the mark, as evidenced by him awarding Burton's movie a mere 2/4 stars. Though he praised the film's technical craft, he ultimately called it "a depressing experience."

What's more startling is that Ebert ended up giving the exact same review score to 1997's appalling Batman and Robin, which he felt was of a similar level of quality to the previous three Batman films, calling it "wonderful to look at, [with] nothing authentic at its core."

We love you, Roger, but you were so, so off-base here.
