19. Crimes Of The Future
David Cronenberg's first feature film in almost a decade may not be his most extreme or creative offering to date, but it does affirm that Cronenberg, at 79 years of age, has lost none of his edge or penchant for memorably effed-up imagery.
In many respects a collage of the themes, ideas, and visuals that have defined so much of his career, Crimes of the Future is a delightfully twisted body horror offering taking place in a future where human evolution has accelerated considerably.
If more a moody feat of world-building than a fully satisfying story, Cronenberg's film is nevertheless an unforgettable examination of the potential interface between humans and technology, topped by strong work from Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, and Kristen Stewart.
