3. Raoul Silva

While Bond villains have been weak sauce in the last two decades, Javier Bardems tantalising portrayal of reptilian baddie Silva sends him shooting right to the top of the pile. This demonstrates the importance of performance; Bardem clearly knows what hes doing, imbuing his creepy, bizarre-looking character with campy flourishes that hearken back to the classic Bond villains of old, while updating the schematic in subtle ways. Who will ever forget Silvas homoerotic flirtation with Bond, rubbing his legs and showing an interest that might be genuine, or might in fact just be another way to make Bond feel extremely uncomfortable. Hes also got a deformity that feels classically Bond; when captured during his days as an agent, he bit a cyanide capsule, but it didnt kill him, it simply burned his insides and tore away part of his cheek, as well as his teeth. Thus, he has to wear a prosthetic implant and false teeth, giving him a whole other horrifying dimension.
