5 Creepiest Bartenders In Horror Movies

2. Kate (Phoebe Cates) - Gremlins

The Shining
Warner Bros.

Like many who take up the bar trade, Kate is moonlighting at Dorry's Tavern, although she's doing so for free as a way to help prevent the financially troubled bar being closed for good. That she's working unpaid doesn't mean Kate resents her role or neglects her responsibilities in any way. She scores highly on this list for demonstrating outstanding customer service and composure in stressful situations. See how sympathetically she treats the heavily intoxicated Mr Futterman (Dick Miller) and how she deftly rejects the unwanted attention of Judge Reinhold's slimy Gerald.

Above all, Kate deserves a medal for handling the most rowdy clientele ever, in the form of a pack of Gremlins. However, she loses some points, since at just a few days hatched those Gremlins are nowhere near the age requirement for purchasing alcohol.

Then again, we don't know how old they are in Gremlin years so maybe we can forgive her that and feel some pity that none of the little monsters saw fit to give her a tip for the mess.

It's unlikely that lack of a tip factored into Kate's decision to help Zach Galligan's Billy exterminate them all. But if it did, any hospitality worker who's had to deal with incredibly rude customers can probably relate.
