5 Films That Deserve Sequels And 5 That Deserve Remakes
8. In Time - Remake
In Time had a fantastic premise, but due to a lack of creativity, it never lived up to its potential. The idea of time literally being money is a brilliant, but the most the filmmakers did was give us high-stakes arm wrestling.
Why not create something more dynamic, like underground time trials. Competitors could have a short amount to get between checkpoints, and if they aren’t quick enough, they die. Taking the time to come up with a few more creative ways of applying the concept, would not only have made the film more exciting, it would have given the world more authenticity.
The second and more pressing issue, however, was a lack of emotional investment in the characters. Justin Timberlake may not be on the same level as his co-stars, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy, but he was more than capable of leading this movie. The problem though, was that his character was too much of a ‘Gary Stu’. At no point, did you ever feel like he was actually in any real danger, he just seemed to breeze through everything unharmed.
If a remake were to be made, this is would have to be addressed, There, would need to be some clearly defined obstacle for the Salas, (Timberlake’s character) to overcome. It was the absence of such an obstacle in the original, that caused it and the characters to fall very flat as there was next to no tension.
