And speaking of nasty, cynical versions of A Christmas Carol, this is the best of all. Like Gambon and Cain, Bill Murrays brilliant Scrooge figure, Frank Cross, simply makes the movie. It hits a nice heartfelt note towards the end, but a few well-placed poignant moments aside, this is a scathing, blackly funny retelling, and a must if you hate christmas. Not only does it have three wonderful ghosts, and a great supporting cast (Karen Allen! Robert Mitchum! Bobcat Goldthwait!), but Richard Donners direction si superb. Like A Muppet Christmas Carol, is stands up as a great comedy and a great film as well as a great alternative adaptation. The Americans have never done a better adaptation of A Christmas Carol than this! So, ho, ho! There you have it, you festive crackerjacks! If you want to revisit the greatest Christmas story of all time, here are five different ways in which to do so. If Ive missed any out, please comment below or tweet me @IAmOscarHarding.
