5 Greatest Inanimate Objects On Film

2. The Vending Machine from Maximum Overdrive

Remember when your parents pulled you to the side at a certain age to give you 'that talk'? You know the one - "Don't leave your electrics plugged in after a comet skims the Earth, in case they come to life and try to kill you". Embarrassing convo right? Well, that's exactly what happens in Maximum Overdrive, Stephen King's directorial debut about inanimate objects that come to life because of some cosmic energy from a comet. But they don't just come to life, they wake up angry and have a vendetta against mankind - sick of being subservient to us for so many years. In one scene a guy tried to buy himself a nice cold can of pop. He's tired and hot and been outrunning killer trucks all day but instead of receiving his can he instead receives an ass whooping courtesy of a vengeful vending machine. We've never trusted them since, and it's the reason we don't allow them anywhere near WhatCulture! HQ.
