5 Lost Directors Who Still Have One Great Movie In Them

5. Richard Donner

MBDTOYY EC003Notable Works: Lethal Weapon, The Omen, Superman, The GooniesLast Film: 16 Blocks (2006) Richard Donner is a filmmaker that has made so many excellent films, some of which you genuinely forget that he helmed. So many folk think that Steven Spielberg directed The Goonies, but it was the legendary Richard Donner, a man who has become defined by the fact that he seems unable to stick to one particular genre. He is most probably most known as the man who brought Mad Mel to Hollywood's attention with Lethal Weapon. Throughout his career he continued to work with Mel Gibson on a number of projects including comedy western Maverick, thriller Conspiracy Theory and the original buddy cop movie Lethal Weapon. Donner also directed a different genre with each film. He nailed horror with The Omen, a film plagued with bad luck and an alleged "curse," before immediately moving on to what would become one of the most famous films of all time, and arguably the first mainstream superhero movie; 1978's Superman. Though what's happened recently, exactly? A shaky sci-fi thriller, based on an even shakier Michael Crichton novel. The criminally under seen 16 Blocks, which with one character's name change could be seen as a more realistic and superior alternative to Die Hard's 4 & 5... and that's it. He's produced a bunch of the X-Men films, but hasn't stepped behind a camera since 2006. I think we need him back. Just to remind us of what event cinema really was, and to rekindle a faded romance with Mel Gibson that could be the biggest rematch since Rocky II. Or is it just me?
