4. The Place Beyond The Pines
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G07pSbHLXgg Ryan Gosling is back together with Derek Cianfrance, director of the critically-acclaimed and, quite frankly, brilliant Blue Valentine, this time in The Place Beyond The Pines. The film is about a motorcycle stunt rider who can't provide for his wife and child and so considers committing a crime in order to bring in the money. This attracts the attention of Bradley Cooper, playing the part of a cop-turned-politician and the two come head-to-head. The film was premiered at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival and has received largely positive reviews from those who have seen it. The cast alone is enough to intrigue; Ryan Gosling is always brilliant in front of the camera and Bradley Cooper has recently been showing his acting talents outside of comedies, earning himself an Oscar Nomination in the process. Gosling is best in his serious roles, especially Drive and Blue Valentine and this film looks to be something similar to both in terms of drama. The trailer doesn't give too much away, which is always a good thing. It's a damn good trailer too, showing the excitement of a motorcycle chase and the drama which ultimately keeps the movie grounded and relatable. It's unclear at the moment whether it will be given a wide release or not, if not then definitely keep an eye out for it.
