5 Netflix Originals We've Loved This Year (And 5 That Totally Disappointed)
2. Disappointing: Things Heard & Seen
Starring Amanda Seyfried and James Norton in the leading roles, this atmospheric horror film should have chilled audiences to their bones. Instead, Things Heard & Seen is regarded as underwhelming and unoriginal flop that left many viewers sorely disappointed.
Directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, Things Heard & Seen is an adaptation of Elizabeth Bundage's All Things Cease To Appear, a well-crafted horror novel with some intriguing twists and turns.
The film centers on Catherine (Seyfried) and George Clare (Norton), a couple who relocate to an isolated farm house with their young daughter. Almost immediately, Catherine feels suffocated by the solitary nature of their new abode and slowly begins to sense more sinister goings-on. As cracks start to show within George and Catherine's marriage, increasingly disturbing facts begin to come to light.
While Bundage's book was a hit amongst readers and critics, Springer Berman and Pulcini's hotly-anticipated adaptation was a bona-fide flop. While some critics did highlight the film's chilling atmosphere, others criticized its unoriginal plot, boring characters, and predictable twists.
