5. Gore Verbinski
Walt Disney Pictures Gore Verbinski is a clear candidate: his work on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise proves that he knows how to helm a blockbuster, provided he is given the right ingredients. Many though will see Verbinski as a bad choice, especially since The Lone Ranger underwhelmed so severely with the critics, and that he has already been talked about for a long time as the best director to helm a Bioshock movie - which isn't exactly forthcoming. The simple truth is that Verbinski made a great commercial blockbuster with Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl: audiences were immediately taken with it, it made an astronomical amount of money, and critics responded similarly, even if all of the sequels subsequently diminished in their successes. Seeing as Uncharted is already a franchise, the likelihood is Hollywood will not stop at just one movie; they'll bleed every dollar out of it and Verbinski, in the moneymaking studio's eyes, would probably seem an ideal fit to direct it. The only downside in having Verbinski take the helm is that he would probably take Uncharted down the commercial blockbuster route too far, relying on heavy, unrealistic computer generated imagery and completely preposterous story-lines - if his existing body of work is anything to go by. Still, Verbinski should not be too far overlooked given his familiarity with action blockbusters.
