4. J.J. Abrams
Paramount Pictures J.J. Abrams has become one of the most sought after directors in the business since his work on the Star Trek reboot: he has already revamped the Star Trek franchise, tailoring it not just for a younger generation but also for the veterans and hardcore fans of the originals - despite accusations of stomping on legacy and he has proven himself capable enough to be entrusted with also reinvigorating Star Wars for Disney. But it is in his ability to create mass appeal in his blockbusters that Abrams would be perfectly suited in directing Uncharted. He has already over-come the considerable obstacles in not only relaunching Star Trek, but also making it a viable franchise again (rather than the reboot ending with a single film as so often happens), and he will have to do the same for Star Wars. If he can take on those two films successfully, he should also be able to deal with Uncharted, and set it up as a franchise. If Abrams succeeds with Star Wars his career will reach a new high, but there is a reason as to why so many directors, such as Zack Snyder, turned down the opportunities to direct Star Wars 7 and that a reluctance to gamble with their career reputations. Abrams has been very bold and it is that sort of boldness that might just be needed to get the Uncharted franchise kick-started. His decision to direct the massively anticipated Star Wars movie, and his successful track record with his ability to reach his audience with the new Star Trek movies, must make Abrams a candidate for taking the helm of the Uncharted franchise. Seeing as Looper director Rian Johnson has been approved to make Star Wars Episode VIII, Abrams might just be available in the market at the right time for Sony to look at him seriously.
