1. Reinvention

Name two Tarantino films that share the same genre. While Reservoir Dogs seems perilously close to Pulp Fiction, if you've seen both films, you know the classification isn't accurate. While all of his film share certain creative trends, such as unique scores, zany dialogue, excessive bad language and violence, they nevertheless are almost entirely independent of one another in regards to genre. That is because Tarantino homages his influences with great aplomb; Kill Bill was his love letter to Japanese cinema, while Django Unchained was his take on Western films, though he referred to this as a "Southern", based on its location and plot. Death Proof, while usually denoted as his weakest film, was his tribute to Grindhouse cinema. Therefore, the reason why people get excited every few years when a new Tarantino film emerges is because they can (rightly) assume that it probably won't be something they have seen before. They assume that given the probable inclusion of an ensemble and quality cast of fine actors and actresses, and given that he seems to hop from genre to genre for the mere pleasure of it, that they will receive a strong final product. I believe that he has yet to prove our assumptions wrong. Any suggestions or feel I missed anything? I'd be more than happy to discuss these in the comments, so ask away!
