5 Reasons Superman Is Awesome

4. The Religious Symbolism

The son is sent to Earth by the Father to give the people an ideal to strive towards, in the hope that humanity can better itself by following his example. Am I talking about Superman or Jesus? And that€™s not all: Superman is powered by the sun €“ the light of the world, one of Jesus€™ many nicknames; Superman stands for truth and justice €“ you don€™t get much more true and just than the son of God. Furthermore, Superman loves humanity as a whole and saves everyone €“ the Bible says anyone can be saved if they repent; and Superman is not only basically a demi-god himself (due to his immense power) but he is often illustrated in religiously symbolic poses €“ i.e. images in All Star Superman include Superman sitting on a cloud, Superman holding the world in his hands, and don€™t forget Brandon Routh falling to Earth with outstretched arms (crucifix style) at the end of Superman Returns.

I am currently studying for a degree in Creative Writing at the University of Gloucestershire and I spend most of my time watching movies, reading graphic novels, playing football and playing guitar. I also love video games; my favourites being the Arkham games, the Assassin's Creed series, GTA 4 (and soon 5!) and the Mass Effect series. The football team I support is West Bromwich Albion, my favourite book is East of Eden by John Steinbeck and my favourite superheroes are Spider-Man, Batman and Superman (in that order).
