3. He Is Truly Selfless
My favourite Superman story is All Star Superman, and it includes some of my favourite moments not just in Superman comics, but comics in general, as these moments perfectly sum up why Superman is such a great character.
Spoiler alert for anyone who hasnt read All Star Superman; it is revealed relatively early in the story that Superman is slowly dying as a result of his cells being over saturated with radiation after flying too close to the sun so while his power is increasing to immeasurable levels, his cells are gradually dying. So what does Superman do? Not only does he carry on being Superman, but he makes a special effort make sure he leaves on good terms with Lois Lane (he gives her a 24 hour superpower serum, so she can taste what being Superman is like). He also puts his own shortening life on the back-burner to save a young girl from jumping off a building to her death, with the words Youre much stronger than you think you are (a truly touching moment), as well as taking the time to fly a bus load of terminally ill children around the world to see sights they would never have seen otherwise, such as the pyramids in Egypt.
