5 Upcoming Horror Movies That Will Disappoint (And 5 That Could Be Great)
6. Amityville: The Awakening
Amityville: The Awakening is the 14th film in the series and the first to receive a theatrical release since Andrew Douglas’s 2005 movie, which was a remake of Stuart Rosenberg’s 1979 movie, which was based on a book by Jay Anson, which was “based on actual events.” It’s yet another ghost franchise from producer Jason Blum, who also gave us the Paranormal Activity, Sinister and Insidious movies, so you know exactly what to expect.
Originally scheduled for release in 2015, the film was pulled back and reshoots were ordered. After a proposed 2016 release date came and went (reportedly following a test screening that went badly), the film is finally due to hit multiplexes in January 2017 - the dumping ground for movies the studio has lost faith in.
None of which whets the appetite for a good movie, but you don't expect an Amityville picture to be "good" - in the tradition of Amityville II: The Possession, Amityville Dollhouse et al, you expect it to be howlingly, hilariously, awesomely terrible.
