5 Upcoming Horror Movies That Will Disappoint (And 5 That Could Be Great)

7. Rings

Rings movie
Paramount

Originally scheduled for release on April 1, and sounding like a poor man’s April Fool joke, Rings is the latest instalment in one of the most blah franchises of recent years. Samara, the long-haired ghost with a serious aversion to sunlight, returns to haunt anyone that watches a cursed videotape, a storyline that by now is older than most of the audience.

Picking up after The Ring Two, the plot introduces a different set of characters, with Aimee Teegarden (Scream 4) standing in for Naomi Watts as lead damsel in distress, while Johnny Galecki, aka Leonard Hofstadter in The Big Bang Theory, heads the supporting cast.

Chillingly, the script is co-written by Batman & Robin’s Akiva Goldsman, and director F Javier Gutierrez promises the film will have a “teen friendly” rating. On the plus side, the film might accomplish something its predecessors didn't - it might be so hopelessly, laughably bad that it achieves a sort of grandeur.

We'll find out this halloween.
