5 Ways The Dark Knight Rises Will Not Meet Your Expectations...

4. Catwoman is NOT Miscast

OK, so this expectation is more a question of taste.I've noticed the casting and depiction of Catwoman getting a lot of flack from some fans. People are annoyed there's no whip and no full-cowl. They've also criticised what the costume does have, razor-high-heels and all, saying it looks silly and Anne Hathaway looks silly wearing it. Whenever I hear stuff like that I can't help thinking; what do you mean she looks silly? You wanted her holding a whip! Anne Hathaway is a fine actor and despite having her best successes by using her very own girl-next-door charms she has also shown (in films such as "Rachel Getting Married" and "Havoc") that she can push herself into darker roles and get under the skin of characters that are nothing like her. The naysayers appear to believe that Anne Hathaway is playing Anne Hathaway in "The Dark Knight Rises". Not the case. She's fought hard for the role and she gets to re-interpret it from scratch. It's the ideal situation for an actor: She's hungry for the role and has something to prove. As it stands she's all set to steal the film out from under Batman's nose, all because of our expectation of her simply for being Anne Hathaway. You remember the first time you saw The Joker's pencil trick? Yeah, you do. Never in recent memory have the pre-conceptions of how a character will be written/presented/acted been ripped out of people's brains in such a singular blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. My theory is that somewhere, lying in wait, in the first 20 minutes of "The Dark Knight Rises" is Catwoman's (and Hathaway's) pencil trick.
