Jon Favreau directs one of two competing live-action/CGI hybrid adaptations of Rudyard Kipling's beloved novel, with Favreau's coming first while the Andy Serkis-directed Jungle Book: Origins has just recently been pushed back to October 2017. Though the appointment of Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) to write the script is a tad worrying, the cast is anything but, what with Bill Murray cast as Baloo, Idris Elba cast as Shere Khan, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Christopher Walken as King Louie, Giancarlo Esposito as Akela, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa and Lupita Nyong'o as Raksha, all of which will be voice roles for CGI animals, while Mowgli will be played by young newcomer Neel Sethi. With a project like this, the winner is usually whichever competing project makes it out of the gate first, and as such, the odds are very much in Favreau's favour, combined of course with his immense directing experience compared to Serkis.
