Robert Zemeckis tackles the incredible true story of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, who famously walked between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974 on only a tight-rope, as was dramatised superbly in James Marsh's 2008 Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire. Some are justifiably arguing that this feature film take is unnecessary considering how much of Man on Wire consisted of gorgeously-filmed reconstructions, but with Joseph Gordon-Levitt leading a cast (as Petit) that also consists of Ben Kingsley and James Badge Dale, it wouldn't be a surprise if The Walk was a major awards player this time next year. On the other hand, the first trailer has left audiences divided: after all, the emphasis on how Petit's feat is being turned into a wild 3D event seems a tad heavy-handed, especially considering the later context of the World Trade Center. It could be tacky, or it could be brilliant, sweaty-palmed entertainment. Release Date: October 2nd
