Joss Whedon has the immensely difficult task of trying to follow easily one of the greatest comic book movies of all time, in his ludicrously entertaining superhero team-up The Avengers. Whereas the original film felt fresh and exciting on the value of its sheer dynamic alone, it's going to take something special to make this live up to that brilliance. In addition to the usual suspects, the cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Thomas Kretschmann as Baron von Strucker, Andy Serkis in an unspecified role, and James Spader as the villainous Ultron. If there's anything that can take Age of Ultron to the next level, it's Spader's performance, which looks utterly terrifying, and if rumours are to be believed, Ultron is going to put The Avengers through the grinder in unexpected, extremely dark ways. With plenty of globe-trotting and a host of new characters, it should at least be a markedly different outing to last time. Release Date: May 1st
