Based on James O'Barr's 1989 comic book of the same name, Alex Proyas' visually dazzling The Crow still holds up as a stylish descent into the supernatural abyss. In his final performance (he was accidentally killed on the film's set), Bruce Lee's son Brandon Lee stars as a slain rocker whose spirit returns to off all of his assassins. Lee's performance is one of delicate balance - he's alternately intimidating, soulful, and physically threatening. However, before 1994's The Crow ever materialized the film almost went in an almost unrecognizable direction. A studio exec apparently pitched O'Barr the idea of turning his creation into a musical starring The King Of Pop, Michael Jackson. During this pitch meeting, OBarr reportedly laughed uncontrollably thinking it was a joke, only to find that they were quite serious. It was only until Brandon Lee and Alex Proyas came on board that the movie took a more serious role.
