After Tim Burton's Batman Returns was released in 1992, the powers that be ultimately went in a much different direction for the next entry of the franchise - less sewer-dwelling villains with black mouths and more bright colors and Bat nipples. However, this wasn't what was originally intended. Initially, Burton was indeed going to direct what would eventually become Batman Forever; and there are plenty of things that would been different if Burton had stuck around. For instance, instead of Chris O'Donnell, Marlon Wayans was actually signed up to play Robin. Though, at the end of the day, Burton's Batman streak didn't continue simply due to the fact that his planned film was simply too dark. And you can't sell toys and hamburgers to children if you're scaring the crap out of them.
