50 Comic Book Movies That Almost Got Made

7. Sam Raimi€™s Spider-Man 4

It€™s no secret that Spider-Man 3 is universally despised in comic book circles, but the truth is that the movie made over $850 million worldwide, leaving Sony with no reason to fire director Sam Raimi at the time. In 2009, production on Spider-Man 4 began with Raimi, his collaborators, and the studio throwing around ideas about where to bring the franchise next. The film would have seen Maguire reprise his role as the web-slinger and John Malkovich join the franchise as the villainous Vulture. Anne Hathaway was in negotiations to play Felicia Hardy (aka Black Cat). And Dylan Baker€™s Curt Connors from the previous films was expected to finally morph into his Lizard alter ego. The franchise, of course, would ultimately be rebooted in 2012 with Marc Webb at the wheel, but one can€™t help but wonder what Raimi could have done if the studio would have let him atone for his cinematic sins.
