50 God-Tier Acting Moments Buried in Bad Movies
26. Barry Keoghan - Saltburn
Saltburn was the talk of the town for quite a few months, yet not necessarily because it was anything all that great. More than anything else, it was remembered for how shocking particular parts of it were. When you take things like a certain scene involving leftover bathwater out of the equation, you're left with a fairly messy psychological thriller that's short on thrills or psychological insight, and also delivers the kind of 'rich people suck' message we've heard too many times by now.
Like many a film before it, Saltburn fell to a strong cast to carry the weak material, none more so than lead actor Barry Keoghan, who plays the mysterious Oliver, a strange young man whose motivations and intentions are unclear until the end.
Keoghan gives an impressively guarded performance as Oliver, being ambiguous enough to keep us all guessing, but vulnerable and charismatic enough that we're still intrigued by this mysterious kid, and wonder what he's all about. Of course, the mask does eventually slip and Keoghan's performance metamorphosizes into a killer antagonistic turn that'll give everyone the shivers.
By the time Saltburn reaches its already-iconic ending - Keoghan dancing nude to Murder on the Dance Floor - this has been cemented as the most iconic role of Barry Keoghan's career so far. And it's going to take some beating.
