50 Greatest Action Movies Of All Time

37. RoboCop (1987)

Violent action movies were ten-a-penny in the 1980s, but as well as delivering plenty of memorable action scenes Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop also came with plenty of underlying social commentary, with the satirical elements just as important to the outcome as the shootouts.

Poking fun at American culture, consumerism and the increasing power of corporations, Robocop is a lot more complex and intelligent than its simple premise would have you believe. However, Verhoeven still manages to deliver on the action front with a string of bloody, brutal and darkly comic set-pieces that make the movie one of the decade's best genre flicks.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
