Plot: A sinister young man (Barry Keoghan) places a horrific curse on a doctor (Colin Farrell) and his family.

Yorgos Lanthimos is one of contemporary cinema's kings of weird, so it's hardly surprising that he's the man behind one of the strangest and most unique horror flicks of the 2010s.

Part Greek Tragedy, part supernatural horror flick, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a mesmerizingly unpredictable and rich journey into the abyss, guided by Lanthimos' steady hand and elevated by a bevy of smashing performances - especially that skin-crawling turn from Barry Keoghan.

Sinister, endlessly unsettling and brilliantly nasty, King of a Sacred Deer is a wildly uncomfortable viewing in the best possible way, as well as a lovely reminder of all the unique things horror can really do in the right hands. Hopefully Lanthimos will dabble in the genre again soon.
