50 Greatest Horror Movies Of The 21st Century
25. Let Me In
Plot: A bullied boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee) forms a special attachment with a child vampire (Chloe Grave Moretz) in this remake of Let the Right One In, which moves the action to 1980s New Mexico.
Beginning with Platinum Dunes' awful Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake in 2003, Hollywood set out on a cynical mission to remake every classic horror film they could. Few such endeavors worked out and as such, no-one was particularly looking forward to Let Me In. But then, in a plot twist that would make Shyamalan proud, Let Me In turned out to actually be pretty bloody great.
Although it's not as good as the original, Let Me In is still one of the best unnecessary movies you'll ever see. A potent horror drama backed with stunning performances and great direction from The Batman's Matt Reeves, Let Me In is a beautiful horror movie with an absolutely huge heart, and it's also a very successful example of a remake.
It keeps what was great about the original and actually does certain things - namely, the vampire's caretaker (Richard Jenkins) and the central romance - better than its predecessor, so this wasn't a rip-off at all. Rather, it's a very worthy companion piece, and proof that not all horror remakes suck. Just most of them.
