50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
35. Kevin Hart As Roland - Borderlands
With the likes of Detective Pikachu, Sonic the Hedgehog, and of course The Super Mario Bros. Movie proving that good adaptations can actually be made of video games, expectations of such have gone up. The curse is gone, and fans can get excited again.
However, that doesn't mean that every video game movie is going to be a success, and for proof, look no further than Borderlands. The film flopped both critically and commercially and was blasted for its casting choices. It may have had some big names, but most of them didn't fit the characters they were playing.
This was the case for none more so than Roland. The actors being much older than their gaming counterparts is a complaint levelled against everyone but Ariana Greenblatt's Tiny Tina, and is just one of the issues with Roland, who is typically mid-20s, being played by Kevin Hart, who is not.
Then there's the fact that Roland is an incredibly serious character, and is physically imposing. Again, Kevin Hart is none of these things, and was never going to work in the role. Fan casts included actors like Idris Elba or Terry Crews, but in fairness, there was far more wrong with the film than just the casting of Roland.
