50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
33. Pierce Brosnan As Ron - The Thursday Murder Club
The film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club may not have quite lived up to the book before it, but there can be no denying it had a stellar cast. Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, Ben Kingsley, David Tennant, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, and Tom Ellis were all excellent, but there was one outlier.
Unfortunately, Pierce Brosnan just wasn't the right man to bring Ron to life. Known as something of a trade unionist with a neck tattoo, champion of the working man, and an avid West Ham United fan, Ron was more a Ray Winston type character than a Pierce Brosnan, something that even the latter thought.
The character should have had a proper Cockney speaking voice, and though Brosnan grew the beard out, he needed to be much more rough around the edges as a stark contrast to the elegance and sophistication of his best friend, Ibrahim (Kingsley).
The odd casting choice has even been addressed by author Richard Osman, who has defended it by saying that this is who Ron the character would have chosen to play himself, which is a lovely meta thought to have, but unfortunately it doesn't change the fact that Ron would have been wrong.
