50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
49. Sigourney Weaver As Kiri - Avatar: The Way Of Water
Of all the new characters introduced to the world of Pandora in the long-awaited sequel to Avatar, the biggest question mark hung over Kiri. After Sigourney Weaver's Grace passed away in the first film, Kiri was birthed from her avatar's body, something that couldn't be explained.
For all intents and purposes, Kiri was essentially a true Na'vi clone of Grace, with this idea being reinforced by the decision to have Sigourney Weaver return to Avatar: The Way of Water to voice the 14-year-old.
It makes sense in a way to preserve the connection between the two characters, and certainly Kiri should have had a voice familiar to Grace's, but not exactly the same. Sigourney Weaver was 73 years old when The Way of Water released, and so it is no surprise that Kiri sounded like a 73-year-old.
Hearing Weaver's voice barely changed from her regular voice every time Kiri spoke made it difficult to take the character seriously, which became an issue as she played such a key role in the story. Sigourney Weaver is incredibly talented, and of course a living legend, but voicing a 14-year-old girl just isn't in her wheelhouse, nor should anyone expect it to be.
