50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
48. Rafe Spall As Eli Mills - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Throughout the seven films of the Jurassic Park/World franchise, the overarching villain hasn't been the dinosaurs brought back to life, but largely rich men with more money and power than sense. Some were genuinely trying to do something good, like John Hammond and Simon Masrani (Richard Attenborough and Irrfan Khan), while others only had the proverbial dollar signs in their eyes, like Peter Ludlow and Martin Krebs.
Ludlow and Krebs were played well by Arliss Howard and Rupert Friend respectively, as was Campbell Scott's Lewis Dogdson. The odd one out in this category was Rafe Spall's Eli Mills, who never truly felt as menacing or as dangerous as the others.
Mills was essentially put in charge of Benjamin Lockwood's (James Cromwell) estate, and worked to get endangered dinosaurs off Isla Nublar under the guise of rescuing them. It was only later that his true motivation of selling them to the highest bidder was revealed.
Unfortunately, Spall was never believable as the evil businessman, and was ironically far more convincing when he was pretending to be the ideological saviour of the dinosaurs. Honestly, his own English accent may have helped, as such a drawl can greatly affect the way an antagonist is received, but how the character was played, he will unfortunately go down as one of the most forgettable of the franchise.
