50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
7. Sydney Sweeney As Julia Cornwall - Madame Web
Let's start this entry off by saying that absolutely nobody came out of Madame Web smelling like anything close to roses, as the whole thing was doomed from its very conception. Almost every character was miscast, but none so much as Julia Cornwall.
Julia was one of the three vulnerable young future Spider-Women that Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim) was hunting down, and that Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson) ultimately found herself protecting. She was the bookish nerd, shy, afraid to come out of her shell, and seemingly without a social bone in her body.
Why anyone thought that Sydney Sweeney was the one to bring such a character to life is a mystery, and instead, it stinks of yet another casting for the sake of a rising star's name. You want to bring Sweeney on board, that's understandable after her turns in the likes of Euphoria and Anyone But You, but at least write a part that suits her even slightly.
Everything about Julia was wrong for Sweeney, who has typically brought the exact opposite type of character to life, but all of that could possibly have been forgiven if she wasn't a 26-year-old trying to pass as 16. To overshadow Dakota Johnson's woeful casting as Cassandra shows just what a misstep this was.
