50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
42. Dane DeHaan As Harry Osborn - The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Since there had been so many villains brought into Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, it was always likely that the rebooted Amazing Spider-Man franchise would revisit at least one of them with a new version. This, of course, was the Green Goblin, with Dane DeHaan playing Harry Osborn.
Though not the main villain of the piece, a title taken by Jamie Foxx's Electro, big things were expected of Harry Osborn as an incredibly important character in Peter Parker's history, and it just fell flat. DeHaan's delivery was wooden, he lacked any kind of charisma on screen, and he came off more as a petulant child than an actual threat. The high-powered CEO drinking whiskey from a decanter just wasn't believable with this particular actor in the role.
When he transformed into the Green Goblin, things got even worse. There was no menace to him whatsoever, and his laugh unfortunately came across as a poor imitation of what Willem Dafoe did 12 years earlier. The inevitable comparisons to Dafoe's Goblin certainly didn't help, and anybody would have struggled to live up to such a mantle, but DeHaan couldn't have felt further from a genuine villain.
Unfortunately, this won't be the last of the actor on this list.
