50 Infuriating Horror Movie Characters We All Secretly Wanted To Die

43. Barbarian - AJ

The secondary lead of Barbarian, the brilliant debut horror film from Weapons' Zach Cregger, might be played by the immensely likable Justin Long, but yes, by the picture's end, he is a character whose demise viewers will cheer on.

AJ is the owner of the Airbnb that serves as the movie's primary location. He's an actor who's been fired from a show after a charge of sexual assault, and he's preparing to sell the house to fund his legal costs. He goes to inspect the house, only to be captured and imprisoned by the naked, deformed woman, nicknamed the Mother, lurking within the house's basement. AJ is locked up alongside protagonist Tess (Georgina Campbell), and they subsequently team up to escape.

AJ is ultimately a stealth villain, as his true nature remains ambiguous for a while. However, towards the end, he confirms that he is indeed guilty of what he was accused of, and he also tries to throw Tess to her death in order to protect himself from the Mother. Thankfully, Tess survives, and just as AJ is giving a feeble apology, the Mother crushes his skull with her bare hands. If she'd died and he'd lived, that would've been a complete middle finger to the audience, one which could've ruined the entire film.
