Mortal Kombat fans have been waiting almost 25 years to see the beloved video game franchise back on the big screen, and though we still know scarcely little about the series reboot mere months away from release, it's still easy to be excited.

First-time director Simon McQuoid helms this R-rated, James Wan-produced reimagining, which eschews huge household names for its roster of colourful fighters in favour of lesser-known, on-the-rise talents.

Still, with Ludi Lin playing Liu Kang, Joe Taslim playing Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano playing Raiden, and Chin Han playing Chang Tsung, there are certainly some canny casting decisions among the bunch.

Good luck topping the 1995 movie's iconic score, though.

Release Date: April 16
