50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022
28. The Gray Man
You may not know about it yet, but The Gray Man is sure to be one of the biggest streaming movies of the next 12 months.
With a stonking $200 million budget, the Russo brothers' globetrotting ensemble action-thriller is reportedly Netflix's most expensive film to date, and will star Ryan Gosling as Court Gentry, a vet CIA agent who is forced to go rogue after being betrayed by his own people.
Gentry faces off against his former colleague Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), who is tasked with tracking him down.
The premise may sound fairly boilerplate for the genre, but the appeal of Rosling vs. Evans speaks for itself, not to mention the Russos' aptitude at handling large-scale action, with a screenplay from their regular MCU collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Better yet, the supporting cast includes Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, and Alfre Woodard. Neato.
The Gray Man releases later this year.
27. Black Adam
Warner Bros. is clearly banking a hell of a lot on Black Adam, hopeful that Dwayne Johnson's statuesque anti-hero will breathe some fresh life into the flagging DCEU.
Reliable blockbuster helmer Jaume Collet-Serra (The Commuter, Jungle Cruise) tackles this origin story for Shazam's arch-nemesis, while the supporting cast counts Noah Centineo (as Atom Smasher), Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Sarah Shahi (Isis), Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone), and Pierce Brosnan (Doctor Fate).
Clearly this film is building towards a future showdown between Black Adam and Shazam (Zachary Levi), which could be a whole ton of fun. Hopefully this is one of Johnson's more memorable tentpoles and not merely another acceptably beige action flick.
Black Adam releases on July 29.
