50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022
16. Knives Out 2
Rian Johnson's Knives Out is one of the most successful original movies to hit cinemas over the last few years, and the ballast-like placement of Daniel Craig's Poirot-esque detective Benoit Blanc ensured the IP was primed for the anthology franchise treatment.
Surprisingly enough, Johnson has ended up teaming with Netflix for two sequels, with the streamer dishing out over $400 million for the rights to stream both films day-and-date.
We don't know much about Knives Out 2, except that Craig will reprise the Benoit Blanc role in a new story that was shot in Greece and New York City.
The cast is absolutely teeming, counting among its number Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle MonĂ¡e, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke.
And the best thing, of course, is that we already know a third movie is happening no matter what. Get hype.
Knives Out 2 releases on Netflix later this year.
15. Top Gun: Maverick
It's taken 36 years, but a Top Gun sequel is finally coming out, albeit almost three years after its initial announced release date due to both production delays and the impact of the pandemic.
Director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) subs in for the late Tony Scott in what looks set to be a visually stunning blockbuster well worth seeing on the big screen if you're able.
Tom Cruise is back of course, while Val Kilmer will reprise his Iceman role in probable cameo form, and the new cast includes Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris.
Few will be expecting prime rib material from the script, but it should at least be a thrilling sensory experience that hopefully makes the most of its highly charismatic ensemble cast.
Top Gun: Maverick releases on May 27.
