50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022
6. Killers Of The Flower Moon
Martin Scorsese has already wrapped his ambitious follow-up to The Irishman, an adaptation of David Grann's book about the murders of several wealthy Osage people in 1920s Oklahoma.
Scorsese's film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser, and John Lithgow in what's sure to be one of the year's buzziest and most awards-friendly movies.
Much like The Irishman, it's going direct to streaming with a limited theatrical engagement, though rather than returning to Netflix his latest will be landing on Apple TV+.
Given the esteem for Grann's book, adapted here by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Munich, Dune), there's almost zero chance this is a miss.
Killers of the Flower Moon releases (probably) on Apple TV+ near the end of the year.
5. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
The upcoming Doctor Strange sequel is the first MCU movie to truly marry the cinematic and televisual realms together, following on from the events of WandaVision, Loki, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Sam Raimi returns to the superhero genre for the first time since Spider-Man 3 - his first film in almost a decade, even - for what's been described as a "horror-show" comic book movie.
Raimi's off-kilter sensibilities seem like a fine fit for a film focused on the permissive insanity of the multiverse, with Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) facing off against an alternate version of himself while teaming up with Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).
Rumour has it the film is absolutely jam-packed with cameos to take full advantage of its multiversal shenanigans, and hopefully it has a genuinely compelling story to boot.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releases on May 6.
