50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022
4. Disappointment Blvd.
Ari Aster follows up his masterful horror films Hereditary and Midsommar with a more comedic stab at the genre in Disappointment Blvd., an epic, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs in history (Joaquin Phoenix).
Plot specifics aren't available, but the pairing of Aster and Phoenix is enough to pique the interest of any cineaste, not to ignore the banger ensemble cast including Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Parker Posey, Michael Gandolfini, Zoe Lister-Jones, Richard Kind, and Meryl Streep.
Aster has claimed the film would be four hours long, though we'll presume he's exaggerating a little. Either way, he's back with A24 yet again, which seems like the best home for a film likely to challenge as much as it captivates.
Disappointment Blvd. releases later this year.
3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Now, it wouldn't surprise anyone if the upcoming Black Panther sequel gets pushed into 2023, what with production delays caused by Letitia Wright's recent on-set injuries and Disney's possible desire to distance themselves from the controversy surrounding Wright's anti-vaccine sentiments.
Wakanda Forever will be an undeniably bittersweet sequel due to Chadwick Boseman's sudden death in the summer of 2020, with Wright's Shuri expected to take up the Black Panther mantle in his stead.
There's little concrete word on the story yet, but numerous reports have claimed Namor will appear as a villain. Clearly, though, much of the film will be focused on establishing a new status quo while saying farewell to T'Challa. Bring tissues.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever releases (for now) on November 11.
