50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022
38. The Last Planet
Terrence Malick's biblical drama The Last Planet - or The Way of the Wind, depending on which title Malick prefers this week - has been in post-production for quite a while, having been shot in the middle of 2019.
Malick's film will depict several pivotal events in the life of Jesus Christ (Géza Röhrig), while Mark Rylance will reportedly play four different versions of Satan throughout.
Otherwise Matthias Schoenaerts appears as Saint Peter, Aidan Turner as Saint Andrew, and Ben Kingsley and Joseph Fiennes in undisclosed roles.
This seems like a fine fit for Malick's typical filmmaking sensibilities, but there's no guarantee whatsoever we'll actually get to see it before year's end, Malick being Malick.
The Last Planet (hopefully) releases later this year.
37. Batgirl
DC fans have been begging for a Batgirl movie for literally decades at this point, and this year it's finally happening, albeit in smaller-scale form as a direct-to-HBO Max release.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) will direct a screenplay from Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey), while In the Heights' Leslie Grace stars as Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl.
Grace will be joined by quite the spectacular supporting cast: J.K. Simmons is set to reprise the role of Barbara's father Jim Gordon, Michael Keaton will play the classic older version of Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Brendan Fraser is appearing as the supervillain Firefly.
Batgirl releases on HBO Max later this year.
