50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2023
24. Fast X
F9 may have signalled the law of diminishing returns finally hitting the Fast and Furious' series, but even with that, Dwayne Johnson's decision to exit the franchise, and director Justin Lin quitting the project a week into shooting, there's still enough to be excited about.
First and foremost, Jason Momoa will make his debut as the new villain Dante, and seeing him working alongside Charlize Theron's Cipher should be a ton of fun.
Brie Larson also joins the cast as new character Tess, who some have speculated may be Brian O'Conner's sister, Rita Moreno will play Dom's grandmother, and Gal Gadot is also reportedly making a surprise return - because nobody stays dead in this series.
Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me) may not be the most inspired directorial choice to replace Lin, but as long as the film delivers the cartoonish action and daft melodrama that made prior installments such a hoot, it should be a good time.
Fast X releases on May 19.
23. Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a standalone sequel to 2018's surprisingly good Bumblebee, taking place in 1994 as the Autobots deal with three new races of Transformers: Decepticon descendants the Predacons and the Terrorcons, and Autobot descendants the Maximals.
Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback will star as an electronics expert and artifact researcher who inevitably get caught up in the robot war taking place on Earth.
The first trailer suggests it's going to tout the gorgeously chaotic action the series made its name on, while following a less-obnoxious tone similar to Bumblebee.
While unlikely to be as big of a hit at the Bayformers movies, it certainly looks like it'll stand the test of time better.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts releases on June 9.
