50 Movie Death Scenes That Left You TRAUMATISED

41. Buck - Zombieland

What Zombieland managed to achieve while melding goofy comedy with horrific gore was outstanding. The movie was an absolute hit, but there was one moment in particular that took audiences out of the safe, funny space that it had previously provided them, with a reminder of the death that had happened before the story even began.

Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee was the badass, zombie-killing machine, but he had a softer side. He rarely opened up, but on one such occasion, he spoke of how the zombies took his dog, Buck, away from him. It was truly heartbreaking.

This went from heartbreaking to utterly traumatising at the reveal that Buck wasn't Tallahassee's dog, but his infant child. A short flashback scene showed father and son playing together, the picture of innocence, something that was brutally and unfairly taken away.

There were many layers that made Buck's death so hard to swallow. Not only did it occur off-screen, and not only was it the death of a child, but it came out of nowhere in what was, up until that point, an unapologetically silly comedy, and drove home that you never truly know what someone is going through.
