The Hunger Games is a franchise that has featured more than its fair share of deaths that felt like a gut punch to the audience. Basing the films around the idea of 24 children in a fight to the death will do that.

The likes of Rue and Prim (Amandla Stenberg and Willow Shields), both young and innocent were killed in harrowing ways, as well as numerous other children, but arguably the hardest death to watch throughout the entire story was that of Sam Claflin's Finnick Odair. Initially introduced as somewhat of an antagonistic douchebag, Finnick's true colours, and multiple layers were eventually shown.

He was an integral part of the District rebellion against the Capitol, and would have done anything to protect his love, Annie (Stef Dawson), and his mentor, Mags (Lynn Cohen). Unfortunately, during Mockingjay - Part 2, Finnick was caught by a pack of mutts, and was in agony as they feasted on him alive.

The only option was for Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss to put him out of his misery before it lasted any longer. Imagine having not only to watch such suffering and having to kill a friend and ally with a bomb, but to do it with the memory of his wedding still fresh in the mind. For a death to stick out as cruel in The Hunger Games really means something.
